Case Competition
The David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah has a case competition that partners local non-profit community organizations and college student groups to solve real-world problems.
My team was one of four from Westminster University that was invited to participate. We were challenged to create new ideas for reducing food waste for Wasteless Solutions, a non profit organization that is local here in Salt Lake City. After researching the company, its mission and the food waste problem, we created a strategy that was both practical and could be implemented quickly and easily in the community.
My focus was on connecting and partnering up with local fast-food restaurants like Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, and others. By coordinating with these businesses, my goal was to redirect the food waste that they have at the end of the night. We proposed a plan to have the non-profit volunteers come and pick it up in the evenings and hand it out to the people in need within the homeless community.
Our team had each member present a portion of our planned strategy to several different Wasteless Solutions and community leaders throughout the day long competition. At the end of the competition my team beat out 15 other student groups from the University of Utah to win the case competition.
